this weekend, sarah palin slammed karl rove. >> if they feel that strongly about who gets to run in this party, then they should buck up or stay in the truck. buck up and run. >> reporter: rove hit back on fox news sunday. >> i say if i did run for office and win, i'd serve out my term. i wouldn't -- i wouldn't leave office midterm. >> reporter: and john mccain recently called rising republican star rand paul a wacko-bird. paul responded at the cpac conference. >> the gop of old has grown stale and moss-covered. [ cheers ] i don't think we need to name any names, do we? >> reporter: now, these divisions have become personal lately in the gop, and i think a way, wolf, we don't normally see. but they're substantive divisions as well. how to tackle the issues like immigration reform, things like same-sex marriage. something that's becoming increasingly popular. and, also, how to tackle women's issues in a way that doesn't repel women, as mitt romney did in november. >> lots of work ahead. thanks very much, brianna for that report. the report, by the way, repaired by the republican national

i was amused by karl rove's musing on the weekend that he could see the 2016 republican nominee, you know, expressing openly his support for gay marriage. i don't believe -- >> that's funny because rove ran that ohio campaign. 2004. >> right. exactly. i don't believe at this point that that is necessarily going to be the case. my caution is this, to the democrats. not that i'm one to caution democrats too much. but, you know, there's one thing to see a poll that says 58% support this, 80% appoint that. that's not necessarily translated into votes yet. and let's just see how this plays out in a ballot box. remember, state legislatures are acting in a way that's consistent with what they're hearing and seeing from their constituencies in their districts. so let's just be a little bit cautious. i take jonathan capehart, our colleague, to heart when he says, you know, let's be cautious in our optimism and enthusiasm here because the supreme court is one thing. >> i agree. >> the ballot box is something else. >> i want to talk about that. as threatened at the conservatives get in this cou

i'm a little upset with them because they have given karl rove this huge platform and have not given us the opportunity to debate him, but other than that, i don't really see where anything has changed. >> robert, what do you think? is this a split between the different factions in the tea party or does it mean something more? >> i don't think my conservative friends have to worry about fox getting in any way soft or becoming liberals. i must tell you, i often encourage liberal friends to go on fox. i tell them i'm their voice of reason. but the point is simply, it's critical, make sure you have every opportunity to make your case. i think what should concern amy is many of the messages the tea party has which are important messages, get buried by the extremist demagogue rhetorics that you hear from tea party activists. maybe they aren't on fox because they aren't credible with information or facts. >> are tea party activists trying to soften their message, amy? >> the last message, 2010 when we drove the messaging, we won across the board, all about the fiscal images and the economy
